Creamy hot chocolate

4,5/5 (410 reviews)

Mrs. Claus's recipe, to make as a family in the Village kitchen.

  • Total time: 17 min
  • Serves 4
  • Very easy

Ingredients

Number of people: Serves 4

  • 80 cl milk
  • 80 g dark chocolate
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 pinch of vanilla

Preparation stepsTotal time: 17 min

  1. Heat5 min

The milk, until just simmering. The liquid should simmer, not boil. Stay close for the first few minutes to set the heat, then check that nothing sticks to the bottom.

  2. Melt5 min

Off the heat, the chocolate in pieces. Stay off the heat: the residual warmth is enough. Putting the pan back on the heat at this point can split the cream, seize the chocolate or scramble the eggs. Amount for this step: 80 g dark chocolate.

  3. Whisk2 min

Return to low heat and whisk for 2 minutes. The liquid should simmer, not boil. Stay close for the first few minutes to set the heat, then check that nothing sticks to the bottom.

  4. Serve5 min

In bowls, with a splash of cold milk if you like. Plate at the last minute. Taste for salt, pepper and acidity, then serve right away: a hot dish is served hot, a cold dish is served cold.

Tips and variations

  • 70% chocolate is mild enough for children if it is well sweetened.
  • A pinch of cinnamon.
