Gingerbread men

4,9/5 (474 reviews)

Mrs. Claus's recipe, to make as a family in the Village kitchen.

  • Total time: 52 min
  • Serves 6
  • Very easy

Ingredients

Number of people: Serves 6

  • 250 g flour
  • 100 g butter
  • 80 g brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • Powdered sugar and a few drops of water for the icing

Preparation stepsTotal time: 52 min

  1. Dough30 min

In a mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients, then 30 minutes in the fridge. Stir from the center outward until smooth, with no dry pockets at the bottom. Press plastic wrap onto the surface to stop a skin forming, and chill it away from the back wall of the fridge. This rest is part of the total time.

  2. Cut out5 min

Gingerbread man cutter, 5 mm thick. Weigh everything first, then cut pieces of the same size so they cook evenly. Keep the trimmings aside until the end, in case you need to adjust.

  3. Bake12 min

12 minutes at 175°C. Preheat the oven to the temperature given, with the rack in the middle. Only open the door if the recipe says so: the dish is ready when it is golden and the time is up.

  4. Decorate5 min

Ice once the cookies are cool. Plate at the last minute. Taste for salt, pepper and acidity, then serve right away: a hot dish is served hot, a cold dish is served cold. Amount for this step: Powdered sugar and a few drops of water for the icing.
