Homemade speculoos

4.9/5 (734 reviews)

Mrs. Claus's recipe, to make as a family in the Village kitchen.

  • Total time: 52 min
  • Serves 6
  • Easy

Ingredients

Number of people: Serves 6

  • 250 g flour
  • 125 g brown sugar
  • 125 g butter
  • 1 eggs
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ginger
  • 1 pinches of ground cloves

Preparation stepsTotal time: 52 min

  1. Mix5 min

In a mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients into a soft dough. Stir from the center outward until smooth, with no dry pockets at the bottom. Count the time from when you start, and only move on once you get the result described.

  2. Rest30 min

30 minutes in the fridge. Press plastic wrap onto the surface to stop a skin forming, and chill it away from the back wall of the fridge. This rest is part of the total time.

  3. Roll out5 min

3 mm thick, then cut out rectangles. Weigh everything first, then cut pieces of the same size so they cook evenly. Keep the trimmings aside until the end, in case you need to adjust.

  4. Bake12 min

12 minutes at 170°C. Preheat the oven to the temperature given, with the rack in the middle. Only open the door if the recipe says so: the dish is ready when it is golden and the time is up.
