4.9/5 (829 reviews)

Mrs. Claus's recipe, to make as a family in the Village kitchen.

  • Total time: 54 min
  • Serves 6
  • Easy

Ingredients

Number of people: Serves 6

  • 200 g flour
  • 100 g butter
  • 60 g sugar
  • 1 egg
  • Jam

Preparation stepsTotal time: 54 min

  1. Dough30 min

In a mixing bowl, combine a classic shortbread dough, then 30 minutes in the fridge. Stir from the center outward until smooth, with no dry pockets at the bottom. Press plastic wrap onto the surface to stop a skin forming, and chill it away from the back wall of the fridge. This rest is part of the total time.

  2. Rounds5 min

Cut out circles. Weigh everything first, then cut pieces of the same size so they cook evenly. Keep the trimmings aside until the end, in case you need to adjust.

  3. Jam5 min

A teaspoon in the center of half of them, then cover with the others. Count the time from when you start, and only move on once you get the result described.

  4. Bake14 min

14 minutes at 170°C. Preheat the oven to the temperature given, with the rack in the middle. Only open the door if the recipe says so: the dish is ready when it is golden and the time is up.
